My Top 5: Favourite Smells

Top 5 Favourite Smells

1. BABIES
If you’re a parent, you’ll know the smell I’m talking about. That sweet intoxicating scent of a minutes old newborn baby, that makes you want to just hold them and breathe them in forever. WHAT IS IT?! Whatever it is, that smell is the best smell in the world.
2. BREAD
I’m sure a lot of people would say this is one of their favourite smells. Don’t estate agents recommend having something baking when prospective buyers come to view a house? I frequently make my own bread, it’s fairly easy but does take a lot of time. I’ve thought about getting a breadmaker instead so I can get the same results but with a lot less elbow grease.

3. LAVENDER
Weirdly, I’m not particularly fussed about lavender-scented products but fresh lavender just blows my mind. My front garden is filled with lavender plants all along the front wall. They’re currently in bloom and it’s amazing! I also live a short drive from the Hitchin Lavender Farm which is breathtakingly stunning. It’s a favourite spot for taking family photos as the views are incredible.

4. COFFEE
I love opening new packs of coffee. I actually get a little bit excited about it and get slightly annoyed if Ian beats me to it. Whether it’s popping the seal on a jar of instant coffee with a spoon or ripping open a packet of ground coffee, that first whiff of the coffee is the best. Subsequent sniffs just aren’t the same!

5. RAIN
I can always tell when it’s going to rain because I can smell it in the air. Do you know what I mean? It smells cool and warm and salty and crisp. And when it’s raining the air smells so fresh and so clean. Rain in the summer is the best. I love to sleep with the windows open when it rains.
