Pregnancy Diary: Second Trimester - 21 Weeks

25th November 2016

We are over the halfway point and at 21 weeks pregnant my little Pip is about the size of a bok choy! She (yes, it's a girl!) is roughly 10.5 inches long and weighs nearly 12 ounces. Here's what's been going on during my 21st week of pregnancy with baby number three.

Baby Development

The baby is now more than halfway to being fully cooked and she is starting to produce meconium from all the swallowing she's been practising. Her skin is see-through and rather wrinkly at the moment as it will allow for the fat she will soon start developing to keep her warm and fuel her brain development. Her inner ear is developing which will help her sense of balance, and her sense of touch is coming along, too. Right now she would look like a recognisable tiny little person, which is incredible to think that just a few months ago she didn't resemble much more than a clump of cells!

Body Changes

I weighed myself this week and currently weigh 126.2lbs which means I am up by over a stone so far now. J still breastfeeds and because of that I know that there are changes going on with my milk. I've been finding it tough to be honest, as things are getting more sensitive and I just will him to hurry up. I have a feeling that my milk is changing to colostrum and wouldn't be surprised if he weans soon as he seems to be getting upset too. Sad times!

Pregnancy Symptoms

I've been experiencing bleeding gums this week. Oh yes, the glamour of pregnancy symptoms is never-ending! And if that's not enough I have noticed little hairs on my tummy, and my tummy is super itchy. I've been reaching for my Secret Saviours night cream quite a lot as that relieves the itch and makes things a little more comfortable at night time. You can read more about the night time symptoms I've been experiencing here. The baby's kicks are becoming a lot stronger and much more noticable, she is really jolting my tummy!

Antenatal Appointments

I'm back to being unloved with the antenatal appointments as I don't need to see the community midwife until 28 weeks, however I will have an appointment to discuss birthing options with the consultant midwife at 22 weeks.

Looking Ahead

I have been thinking a lot about babymoons, have you heard of them? They are like little getaways or breaks for couples to enjoy just before the baby comes. I think it would be a really nice idea and have been thinking that Ian and I could go away to a hotel or for a spa break. If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them!
