I don't know any six-year old that doesn't love Hatchimals CollEGGtibles so imagine how delighted Noah was when I opened up a delivery to reveal the latest collection. We were sent a selection from the new season to review, which has resulted in very happy children! "Oh my gosh Mummy, it's the Mermals ones!" I definitely earned some MAJOR mummy points that day!
Just in time for Easter, Hatchimals CollEGGtibles season 5 is a super cute mermaid themed collection with an added surprise. The shimmery, colourful, seashell-shaped eggs will hatch Mermal Magic characters, which for the first time ever, change colour when placed under water. How cool is that?!
Like the larger Hatchimals Surprise Eggs, they need their owners help to hatch. As with previous seasons, to hatch the eggs you rub or hold the purple heart until it turns pink. With a gentle squeeze the egg will crack to reveal one of 80 collectible characters nestled within. You might find a Mermal (half-Hatchimal, half-mermaid) inside, or perhaps a friend from Sunshine Surf, Mischief Marsh or Racing River.
My children love Hatchimals CollEGGtibles and fortunately for me it's an affordable range of toys, meaning I don't have to sell my soul for them to continue collecting! Hatchimals CollEGGtibles come in packs and sets to suit all budgets, starting at £2.99 for a one-pack. These are usually what I buy as they are fab pocket money toys and not to expensive as little treats when they boys have done well at school. As well as the single egg packs, you can get a two-pack (£4.99) which has a bonus nest, a four-pack (£9.99) which has a bonus character and a six-pack (£12.99) with a shell-shaped carrying case, as well as the 12-pack egg carton (£24.99) and fun playsets (£7.99-£19.99).
Hatching their eggs is the boys' favourite part, it's so exciting waiting to see which character will be inside and even more exciting to reveal a set of twins! It's also worth knowing that the different coloured eggs indicate which family group you have, meaning you can swap eggs before hatching them. So far we've not had any duplicates but it's a good tip! You also get a checklist in each of the packs, so you can tick each character off as you go. It makes it much easier for us parents to keep track!
The last time we reviewed Hatchimals CollEGGtibles, the boys were very patient and slowly worked through the different packs, but this time they were very eager to get hatching, tearing open all of the packs before I could stop them. It was a bit of a free for all! Noah hatched all of his eggs with ease, but as before Jude needed a bit of help from me. These toys are aimed at children aged 5+ so he is a little young as he is only 4, but he loves them just as much and both of them are now super keen to add more season 5 characters to their ever-growing collection!
Hatchimals CollEGGtibles are available at all good retailers nationwide.
